Video 2524 - (Behavior) - 23.02.2025 - The warrior gene and the transformation of society
What is the "warrior gene"?The term "warrior gene" popularly refers to a genetic variation of the MAOA (Monoamine Oxidase A) gene, specifically the MAOA-L variant, associated with lower activity of the MAOA enzyme. This enzyme regulates neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, which influence mood, impulsivity and aggression.Controversial studies: Research from the 1990s-2000s suggested that men with the MAOA-L variant (present in about 30% of the population) are more prone to aggressive or antisocial behavior when exposed to childhood trauma (abuse, violence).Limitations: The correlation is weak and non-deterministic. Human behavior is influenced by genetic, epigenetic, environmental and cultural factors. The idea of a "single gene" for violence is considered reductionist by the scientific community.
